Back to School

Well, it finally happened. I went back to work. Callie is so excited that I am at school with her every day. I asked her why she liked me being at school so much. She said, "because it makes me love you more". That melted my heart! It's been a pretty uneventful transition for the kids, but not for me. I'm getting used to being back in the fast past world of teaching.

Jack is going to Ms. Brandy's and loves it. He has been happy when I pick him up, and she tells me that he is a happy boy. He's still not doing any fun tricks. When he is on his tummy, he will pick up his head and look around for a while. Also, on Monday, I thought he was going to roll over. He got about half-way there. I hope it won't be too long.

He weighs 12 pounds 9 oz as of Monday night. I love having the scale at home so we can weigh him at any time! Here are a couple of his most recent pictures. I don't know why they are sideways. I thought I rotated them. Ugh!

A few pictures

Here are a few pictures of all of the fun times we've had over the last few weeks . . .

For homecoming week the kids dressed up to a different theme each day. Wednesday was "King or Queen of Homecoming". Callie went as a princess. Surprisingly, she was still wearing this itchy dress when I picked her up.

8 Weeks Old

Wow! It's been a really long time since I updated the blog. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that life in our house is absolutely crazy 99% of the time, so blogging has gone to the back burner.

So much has happened since my last update, so I'll try to fill you in as much as I can.

First I'll update you on Callie . . . She started dance (tap & ballet) the 2nd week of school. She loves it so much. The first week she went, her face was full of absolute joy. She wears her ballet skirt and leotard so much that we can never find it when it's time to actually go to class. We had her first parent/teacher conference. I didn't learn anything earth-shattering about her. She is doing well for her age and just needs to work on not talking so much. Sound like anyone else we know? :-) She's had a hard time adjusting to not taking a nap at school, so we've struggled with her behavior at home after school. But we're making progress with that as well. She's still in gymnastics and is doing great. It's nice to see the girls do actual gymnastics finally after two years of working up to this.

Now on to Jack . . . he wil 8 weeks old tomorrow (Tuesday the 29th). He is still sleeping a lot and eating more each feeding it seems. We've had a few nights where he's gone 5-6 hours between bottles, so that is a HUGE change. Tim and I aren't in quite as big of a fog as we were 3 weeks ago. He has started to smile a little and is really alert when he's awake. We weighed him today and he's up to 10 lbs 11 oz. I can't believe it! His umbilical cord finally fell off last Tuesday night. That's right . . . it took 7 weeks, that's 49 days, for that sucker to come off. It took Callie's 37 days. I just thought that was forever. So, he had his first bath the next night. He screamed the entire time, but it was nice to know he had been washed with more water than a washcloth could hold.

I was sitting in his room rocking him last week and everything that we've been through hit me. I can't tell you how thankful I am that he is here and well and happy (well, most of the time). I'm also thankful that I'm here and well and happy (again, most of the time.) It was a rough road to get where we are. I'm sure there will be many more rough patches ahead, but we made it this far, so I know we'll be able to face whatever the next challenge is that comes our way.

I have 3 weeks left of maternity leave. I go back to school on Oct 19th. I hope I'm ready by then. I know I definitely want to go back, but it will be hard leaving my little man all day. I just hope that he's sleeping more regularly by then. Ha!

I will post pictures on a separate post. I'm not organized enough to have them all ready tonight.

Jack is 5 Weeks Old!

Well, I missed updating last week with his stats, so I'll put his 1 month and 5 week stats on this post. He is sleeping about 2 hours at a time (which does not make for a very awake mommy and daddy). Tim was out of town last week, so my mom came to spend the week with us. It was so nice to have her here, but I think she slept for 2 straight days after she got back home. We were both pretty pooped! He's eating great and growing like crazy!

Weight:
1 month: 7 lbs. 11.5 oz.
5 weeks: 8 lbs. 4.5 oz.
I can't believe how big he's getting. When we went for his 3 week check up/first visit with our pediatrician, Dr. Alvis, I was able to answer yes to all of the developmental questions that he asked. That was a relief. I'm sure we'll be behind at some point, but for now, I'm happy. He's starting to be a lot more alert when he's awake, so that's fun. Callie is excited that he's awake more now. I know she'll be glad when he does something besides lay there and look at her. Here are a couple of recent pictures of him.
